Hi my loves, today I'll be reviewing a few of the Zoeva eyeshadow brushes for you. I've been using these brushes regularly for the past 3 1/2 - 4 months, and so far so good! - I wasn't aware of this brand beforehand, I didn't really see or read many blogs about people raving about them, but I cant figure out why because they really are amazing. I was on the hunt for some new shadow brushes but wasn't willing to pay a heap load such as for Mac, and so I came across these. I ordered directly off of the Zoeva site, however BeautyBay and Love Makeup also stock these brushes here in the UK. Zoeva are a German company and ship internationally with pretty decent shipping rates (I think I paid about £7.50 for shipping) - Click here to find out more about what countries they ship to and specific shipping costs..
So now let's get to the real deal! Here they are..
Pretty standard looking brushes, but the packaging they arrived in was super cute & handy!
Each of the brushes came separately packaged in these pouches which have the Zoeva logo across the front, and the name and number of the brush at the back of the pouch. This is such a great idea, because if you're fussy about keeping everything in order and worry about hygienic factors, this is an ideal way to store your brushes and not worry about dust settling on them! - now it is just loads of extra steps to use one brush every time you fancy putting abit of eyeshadow on, so if like me you're lazy, then just store them in a normal makeup holder/pot, but you can still get plenty of use out of the pouches. You can store little bits an bobs in them such as jewelry, eyeliners or lipliners and so on!
As you can see from the images above, each brush comes with the Zoeva logo on the bottom and the standard design of the brush name an number across the top.
228 Luxe crease brush - lets just begin by saying this is my favourite brush out of the 8 I own! It is SO soft and fluffy and easy to work with! I can easily find myself creating a whole eye look using just this one brush. It is the ideal crease brush as it fits perfectly into the eye socket. Use it for applying transition shades, crease shades, all over lid shades.. Whatever you fancy because I do! - and it truly is a brush with multiple uses. The bristles are dense, but extremely flexible, making blending easier. I love this one & highly, highly recommend it.
231 Luxe petit crease - this is ideal for adding depth to the crease. I use this brush to add definition to my crease. If you love creating cut crease looks then this is a brush you should invest in, as you can achieve the perfect cut crease by being able to use the same brush for applying the cut crease, as well as being able to blend it out without constantly changing between brushes as the bristles are nice and soft so won't irritate you, or begin to tug at your eyes from all the blending.
142 Concealer buffer brush - I enjoy using this brush to blend everything out on my upper crease for finishing touches. It helps diffuse any harshness as the shadow gradually gets higher and closer to the brow bone. The bristles are made from talkon, which is a type of synthetic fibre. They are dense and tightly packed which makes this process easier as I can focus on specific areas I may want to concentrate on. Overall this is a handy brush as it also has multiple uses for the face & eyes but isn't one I reach out for that often.

222 Luxe all over shader brush - For me, this is just a bigger version of the 234 (brush in the middle in the picture above). Zoeva claim that this brush can be used for all fucntions when applying shadow. The dome shape of the brush allows you to add colour to the lid and crease effortlessy. The bristles are also soft like all the others but closely packed making application alot easier.
234 Luxe Smoky Shader brush - This is the ideal brush to use for applying colour to the lid. Use this brush for applying dry or wet shadows. I like to use this with small downwards strokes and apply a small amount of shadow at once, slowly bulding it up with the same motion to the intensiity I desire. I also reach for this brush when I want to add a highlight to my brow bone as the size is smaller then the 222, so does not interefere with the eyeshadow in my crease.
230 Luxe pencil brush - I reach for this brush mostly when I am creating a smoky eye. I use it to add depth and darker shades to the outter V/corner of my eyes and also for adding colour to my bottom lashline. The soft bristles, as well as the size of the brush allows me to effectively add colour to my bottom lashline and blend it out without poking my eye, (which silly me always ends up doing >.<).

238 Precise shader brush - I love using
this brush to add highlight to the inner corners of my eyes. The ever so tiny
brush allows me to do this effectively without getting to much shadow
everywhere! I do find that this brush is not as soft as some of the others,
however this doesn’t really bother me as it gets the job done.
226 Smudger brush - This brush's
function is to ideally smudge out eyehsadow and kohl on the upper and lower lash
line to create a smoky look. To be honest this brush is my least favourite. I find it too stiff to work with, as in too stiff to
'blend' and 'smudge' product out with. The lower lash line, as well as the
upper lash line are very sensitive areas, and for me this brush doesn’t work
well with these areas. I have however found another use for this brush and like to use it to fix up the edges of my lip with concealer when I’m wearing
a bold lip. I also like to use it to create a light contour for my nose (which
is rarely), as well as use it to apply brow bone highlight. So it's not all bad
I guess..
To clean my brushes I just use the standard Mac brush cleaner and paper
towels which works wonders, also killing any bacteria on the brushes - I leave
them to dry facing downwards (upside down) using the Real Techniques brush holder that comes with their brush
sets so that no liquid loosens the bristles beneath.
Overall, my verdict on these Zoeva eyeshadow brushes are that they are
really good! I'll give them a 10/10, even though not all 8 are to my fancy,
I've found other uses for them so I’m still happy.I’m guessing their face brushes are as good, so I
will definitely be buying more shadow brushes and have my eyes on the rose gold
set! Final comments: -
- Cheaply priced, all the brushes I mentioned are between £6-£7 each which is a bargain! - The cheap price does not mean that they look cheap or tacky, so well done Zoeva for delivering high quality brushes which look and feel just as good as high end brushes!
- Quality is just amazing! Super soft and fluffy but not scratchy and effectively distributes product evenly. These have been compared to Mac and Sigma brushes, which are pretty high end in comparison to Zoeva, price wise. I can’t comment on any comparisons between the brands as I only own Sigma face brushes and no Mac ones.
- I enjoy these because a majority of their brushes are made from a mix of natural and synthetic hairs. So you're getting the best of both worlds - getting the durability, flexibility and softness of the natural hairs, but the thickness and denseness from the synthetic fibres.
- No shedding whatsoever!
- The only con is that if you are against animal cruelty, then the fact that these do contain natural hairs may not be for you.
- Also even though I haven't witnessed any shedding at all, on a few of fluffier brushes some of the bristles are abit 'wonky' I don't know how else to explain it! As in their not facing the same way as all the other bristles but sticking out side ways. This happens more after each wash but is only a few bristles per fluffy brush, but nothing that worries me too much.
And
that’s all! Hope this helps my loves. These really are a great investment -
cheap and cheerful! Great value for money and great quality. I recommend these
for new beginners who are just starting out and practising eyeshadow looks so
you don’t have to invest a huge amount on brushes. Their also great for
freelance makeup artists.
